I’ve been teaching group piano since 1988 and I’ve learned some things along the way that I share on this blog. I want to help other piano teachers create fun and stimulating environments where piano students can collaborate and learn to love music and develop their skills. I’m still learning and developing best practices. I’m eager to learn with you about how we can better serve our students and encourage more people (little people and big people) to make beautiful music.
Dorla Pryce Aparicio, M.M., NCTM (or Miss Dorla, as her students affectionately call her) has been teaching early childhood music, private and group piano for more than 30 years. She received her undergraduate degree in Piano Performance at the University of Montemorelos in Mexico and a Master of Music degree in Piano Pedagogy from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas.
After six years as Early Childhood Music Coordinator at Texas Christian University’s Music Preparatory Division she continues to maintain a full teaching schedule with over 40 students in her private studio, an additional 40 in group piano lessons at an After School Program and as adjunct music instructor at Southwestern Adventist University in Keene, Texas.
Miss Dorla is a member of MTNA AND NGPT and enjoys networking with other music teachers around the country. She is married to Jose, who attends every recital with a smile. Together, they have one son a budding musician.
